If you are interested in checking out what Coachella 2011 has to offer for Electronic music, here are some great options:
Friday
Beardyman
This is your chance to catch the UK beatboxing champion who, up until now, has made very limited appearances in the US. This is something you have to see to believe as his gig is very hard to describe. His act consists only of his voice, which he samples, loops, and layers into full songs. He has become somewhat of a youtube sensation. Here is a sample of what to expect:
Magnetic Man
Magnetic Man is one of the most commercially successful UK Dubstep acts out there today. Their debut album reached Number 5 on the UK charts and their songs are featured in video games and commercials and get plenty of radio play:
Sasha
Sasha has been a force in the electronic music scene for over 20 years. Making a name for himself as a pioneer in the progressive trance/house genre in the late 90′s, he has continued to evolve and remains an central figure in the EDM scene. You can expect a voyeuristic journey during Sasha’s Coachella performance:
The Chemical Brothers
British duo, Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons have been a leading electronic act on the festival circuit for over 15 years. I first saw these guys at the Hultsfred festival in 1998. A pioneer in Big beats, you can expect big production and many classic tracks:
Saturday
Paul Van Dyk
Leading German Trance icon Paul Van Dyk will please the masses of trance fans at Coachella. PVD’s work during the late 90′s is what established him as a pioneer in electronic music and helped make Trance popular across the world:
Shpongle
Shpongle is a downtempo, Psy-Trance act from the UK. For Coachella they are bringing a rare live performance called Shpongletron experience, which is supposed to bring a massive video mapped stage and provide a mind blowing experience:
Steve Angello
As one of the members of the hugely popular Swedish House Mafia, Steve Angello has enjoyed unbelievable success in the last couple of years. SHM’s debut album, Until One, cracked the Top Ten in several European countries and the group sold out multiple shows during this year’s Miami Music Week. Even though Steve Angello frequently plays throughout Southern California, this house music-pop music crossover star will surely have a massive following at Coachella:
Sunday
High Contrast
Leading drum & bass act High Contrast should entertain both drum & bass fans and fans of other genres as well since his sound contains many of the same elements found in house music. His 2007 Essential Mix was chosen as Best of the Year by Pete Tong and he is one of the most sought after remixers.
Sven Väth
Techno legend Sven Väth makes a rare Southern California appearance as part of his 2011 US tour. One of most influential (and cult) figures in Techno, Sven has run one of the most successful nights in Ibiza for the last 10 years: Cocoon @ Amnesia. Sven plays all across the globe but for whatever reason has avoided playing in the US for the last 5 years. Now is your chance to see this legend!
Trentemøller
Danish Electronic artist Trentemøller’s live performance consists of a multi-instrument act that is anything but ordinary. The video below should excite all Coachella ticket holders:
