This year marks the 17th installment of the Bal en Blanc or the “White Party” for those who don’t speak French. I have had the opportunity to attend this party twice and I HIGHLY recommend it to anyone who enjoys an incredible city, beautiful people, and amazing music.
Every year, from Easter Thursday to Sunday, the ‘White Party Week’ includes parties thrown each night leading up to the main White Party event ‘Bal en Blanc’ on Easter Sunday. Expect to see upwards of 20,000 of the most beautiful people you’ll ever party with at this “rave.” As a matter of fact, this will probably be the classiest “rave” you’ll ever attend - I was absolutely amazed. The entire week/weekend includes various activities related to new urban culture. The main event is held on Sunday April 24th at the Palais De Congress which is in downtown Montreal. Most people have that Monday off and can enjoy going out without the guilt of work the next day. Taking an extra day or two off if you’re traveling to this event may be in order to ensure some quality recovery time.
The headliners vary from year to year but they have 2 large rooms, a House/Progressive room and a Trance room. This year Tiesto headlines the event with Armand Van Helden and Avicii providing support in the main room. The trance arena has a strong line up with Above and Beyond, Markus Schulz, Sander Van Doorn, and Cosmic Gate.
Montreal itself is an incredible city which sets the tone for the event. There is a lot to do and enjoy if you have some free time in the city. It truly feels like you’ve been transported to Europe even though you’re just North of our own border in Canada. Eating is usually a focal point while on vacation and the food in Montreal is decadent. For those who aren’t familiar, Montreal is located in the province of Quebec where the primary language is French. As you can imagine many of the restaurants will carry this French influence but no matter what you’re in the mood for there are amazing options. Don’t worry, if you don’t speak French, almost everyone in the city is bi-lingual and can also speak English.
You can almost immediately notice while in Montreal that fashion in is extremely important. No matter what the season (and temperature) everyone is looking their best. This is true for Bal en Blanc, as well. This is a white party with some of the most creative, crazy and sexy outfits you’ll ever lay your eyes on, be prepared to be impressed.
If you are looking for other parties to attend before the official party Montreal has some great clubs/afterhours at your disposal. Stereo, Circus (afterhours) and RedLite (located in Laval) are some of the clubs you will want to check out for great electronic music and amazing vibe. On a side note, Montreal is also known to have some of the best strip clubs in the world.
Depending on where you live it still may require a 4+ hour flight to get to Montreal but you can get the feel of Europe right here in North America while enjoying one of the best large parties Montreal has to offer.
