Las Vegas - Memorial Day Weekend 2011

Share

Memorial Day Weekend is almost here again and if you’re within a reasonable distance Las Vegas is always on the menu. Every year, Las Vegas ups the anti with more clubs, new pools, and countless parties at your disposal. This year is no different and with more options than ever, some pre-planning will be in order if you want to maximize your fun.

Even if you don’t pre-plan every step of your trip, the nice thing about Las Vegas is you can usually “wing it” and make last minute plans but it will come at a premium cost over the Memorial Day Weekend as almost all of the parties will sell out early. If you choose to wait, bottle service may be an option but even tables sell out quickly, so start looking now to save time, money, and headaches. After all, this is Vegas and there already will be plenty of dollars spent and hangovers to be cured.

Once you lock down your schedule, pacing yourself while in Vegas will be the toughest challenge as it’s usually non-stop partying until you leave. Between the sun, heat, and alcohol, hydration will be the key to make sure you can physically make it from the pool, to the club, and then the after-hours before doing it all again. Memorial Day Weekend in Las Vegas is in full effect from Friday through Tuesday morning.

Many of the big hotels, especially the new ones, have clubs and pools that will bring in multiple big name DJ’s for MDW. The Love Festival is the biggest event held at the Palms, this “party” will include daytime pool parties and nightly events held at the indoor/outdoor venue Rain. Tiesto also returns for another installment of his monthly residency at The Joint in the Hard Rock Hotel (which has a 4,000 person capacity). I had the opportunity to see the last show and he did not disappoint. The crowd, the production, and Tiesto’s new sound (which is more progressive) made it an incredible night! I’m sure his party held over Memorial Day will be even more impressive. Wet Republic, Tao, XS, Surrender, Marquee, and Encore (which hosts Deadmau5 on Monday) are some of the other clubs and pools that will be throwing parties all weekend long.

A really tough decision will be what pool parties to attend. For full list check out our Memorial Day Weekend guide HERE. Some people attend the pool parties for the crowd but we recommend making music your number one priority as there will be hard bodies and tattoos everywhere the sun is shining. Vegas is always a great time but what makes it unique is the fact there isn’t really a local scene since almost everyone who comes out is also visiting and wants to do one thing….PARTY! This dynamic means the energy level is high but to make the party truly special, the music will be important in setting the vibe, so choose carefully and in doing so you will make sure to make the most of each day. Remember to bring protection, your sunscreen that is, as the sun can ruin your whole weekend if you get burned.

Don’t forget to leave plenty of time to get around as taxi’s will be in short supply over the Memorial Day Weekend. You may want to consider taking those limos that are offered upfront next to the taxi queue instead of waiting in line. Especially if you’re in a big the group, the cost of splitting the limo is about equal to that of taking a taxi. Also, remember that a taxi will only take a maximum of 5 people, plan accordingly if you’re in a large group…you might need everyone to get to the party at the same time and splitting up can be a logistical nightmare. Many hotels will also offer concierge services, it might be worthwhile to see what hook-ups they can score for anything else you haven’t planned for or thought of.

One last bit of advice is to save some energy for the afterparty! Whether it’s Drai’s, Vanity or a private afterparty, everyone knows this is when the fun and debauchery really begins. Stay lubricated and hydrated so you can last the entire weekend without a trip to the ER. With the right recipe you can get ready to put Charlie Sheen to shame and show Las Vegas that you’re the one who’s winning!!!
