Sonar Festival 2011 is making the music and events available to the masses this year but committing to extensive radio and internet coverage. Many events and lots of festival information will be shared via the radio and online.
Sonar‘s media collaborators include the radio stations BBC Radio 1, Red Bull Music Academy Radio, Rai Radio 2, iCat FM, ScannerFM, RAC1 and RNE; the online magazinePlayGround and the online streaming website Boiler Room.
Here is a list of the coverage:
ScannerFM + SonarRadio
- Barcelona’s online radio station
- Will cover the festival over the three days
- From noon to 10pm, broadcasting from their studio in Sonar by Day
- Two channels will have coverage - the general ScannerFM channel and the special SonarRadio channel (Sonar’s official radio station)
- They will be recording shows at both Sonar by Day and Sonar by Night for subsequent broadcasting in the SonarSessions on SonarRadio
- They will be producing an audiovisual report on ScannerTV
- Photo galleries will be published daily on their website: www.scannerfm.com
RNE 3
- The program Siglo 21 (presented byTomás Fernando Flores) will be broadcasting live from Sonar by Day, on Thursday, June 16th and Friday, June 17th
- From noon to 1pm
- Live performances by Stendhal Syndrome (Thursday) and Henry Saiz (Friday)
- They will record performances in their studio for future broadcast
RNE 4
- The program Musiques Clandestines (presented by Consol Sáez), will be broadcasting live on Thursday 16th and Friday 17th
- From 1:30pm to 2:30pm
iCat FM
- The station will be bringing two mobile teams -one at Sonar by Day and the other at Sonar by Night
- Will provide regular reports on the news bulletins of iCat FM, Catalunya Ràdio and Catalunya Informació.
- The programme Cabaret Elèctric (hosted by Albert Miralles), will have live festival coverage on Thursday and Friday (from 10pm to midnight)
- The programme Independents (hosted by Josep Martín) will broadcast entirely from Sonar by Night on Saturday, June 18th (9-10pm)
- Additional coverage on the following Catalunya Ràdio programmes: Tot és molt confús (noon-2pm), El Secret (4pm-7pm), and El Suplement (Saturday from 9am to 1pm) with Tatiana Sisquella
RAC1
- The Catalan radio station will broadcast the programme No hi som per festes (presented by Jordi Beltran)
- Saturday June, 18th from 6 pm to 8pm, from Sonar by Day
PlayGround
- PlayGround’s coverage will include an extensive photographic webzine on the artists and atmosphere and a detailed daily report on the music
- Days after the festival, they will stream sessions and concerts
BBC RADIO 1
- There will be a special showcase on the night of Friday, June 17th on the SonarLab stage at Sonar by Night
- They will cover the festival over all three days with various link-ups, featuring the 3 DJs / presenters performing on stage on Friday
- Toddla T, who will be providing a preview from London on his show on Thursday, June 16th, a day before he arrives in Barcelona
- On Friday, June 17th, Annie Mac presents a two-hour special (8pm-10pm) from Barcelona
- Guests include: Benji B, Redlight, Katy B and once again, Toddla T.
- Benji B (June 22nd) and Annie Mac (June 24th) will host specials dedicated to the festival on the days afterwards
- Essential Mix Sonar Special scheduled for June 25th
Boiler Room / Red Bull Music Academy Radio
- Boiler Room and Red Bull Music Academy join forces to broadcast live the shows and sessions on the SonarDôme stage, curated by RBMA
- The streaming will be live during the three days of the festival, for a few selected hours each day.

Rai Radio 2
- Italian corporation’s radio station will cover all three days of the festival on its programme RaiTunes
- There will be a special profile of Sonar on its website
- Including constant updated information and reports
- 5 videos recorded live will be broadcast on the website itself and on its social networks
