Transportation
Flying into Amsterdam
Closest airport: Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS) - approximately 20 km south-west of Amsterdam
From Airport to Amsterdam
Connexxion Bus
Connexxion Amsterdam Tourist Ticket costs € 10,- round trip and takes approximately 30 minutes from Schiphol Plaza to the centre of Amsterdam (Leidseplein). There are 6 to 8 buses each hour and return journeys do not have to take place on the same day.
Taxi
Depending on traffic, a taxi can take you to the city centre in approximately 30 minutes and will cost you roughly 40 euros. If you encounter drivers soliciting within the airport,
please be cautious as these are not officially approved taxi drivers. Look for taxis at the airport exit.
Hotel shuttles
A hotel shuttle service may be available from your hotel. To see if your hotel participates, check here: The Connexxion Schiphol Hotel Shuttle.
Train
‘Schiphol’ train station, which is located directly underneath the airport, can take you to Amsterdam Central Station (city centre), Amsterdam Zuid-WTC (World Trade Center) and Amsterdam RAI (Exhibition and Conference Centre RAI). These stations are a maximum of 25 minutes away. For more info, go to NS Hispeed.
Train Schedule
During the daytime, an average of five trains an hour run from Schiphol to Amsterdam Central Station. At night, from 1 am to 5 pm, the night train runs once an hour from Utrecht CS to Amsterdam CS – Schiphol – Leiden CS – The Hague CS – Delft and Rotterdam CS and back, not stopping at smaller stations in between.
Driving/Parking In Amsterdam
If you are not familiar with the city, navigating through the narrow and crowded 17th century-built streets can be tricky. It’s best to become familiar with ring road A10. The S-routes indicate the city routes that guide motorists into the city centre. Each exit of the ring road A10 is numbered, from S101 to S118. The S-routes offer automobile traffic the fastest and most direct way into the city.
Parking
Any streets within the ring road A10 are a paid parking area. The parking spaces are scarce and therefore the most expensive in the city centre. It recommended to park in garages on the outskirts of Amsterdam and use the park & ride facilities to venture into the city.
Arriving by Train into Amsterdam
If arriving in Amsterdam for ADE by train, you will most likely end up at Amsterdam Central Station. Public transportation or taxi will be required for you to get to your final destination. To use the public transportation journey planner, click here.
