The BPM (Dec. 30th - Jan. 8th) and Primavera (April 5-8th) festivals are held in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico which is known as the Mayan Riviera. Playa Del Camren is a tropical, exotic location that’s just perfect to help create a special vibe for so many of the parties thrown over the course of both festivals. For everyone who’s been to BPM or Primavera there are so many special moments and memories that it might be tough to narrow down the most special moment they have experienced (but it’s great to think back and relive the experience again!) My best memory of 2012 was sharing the decks with D. Ramirez at Kool Beach on Saturday evening in front of over 1,000 people. The weather was perfect, it was warm with a cool breeze off of the sea - and the sun was setting as we finished up, it’s one of those moments that gets etched in your memory forever.
We asked those who are responsible for bringing us these incredible events to share their most memorable moment over the past 5 years…
What is the most memorable moment that stands out looking back over BPM’s 5 year history?
Alessandra: My personal most memorable moment was in year 3 or 4 (I can’t remember exactly): I had been running around like mad the whole week, and I finally stopped for a moment and took a walk along the perimeter of the beach and then up through the crowd. I was in complete awe to see and feel the energy of the sea of people – was like 7,000 people that day - dancing away, smiling, laughing… It was a very personally rewarding moment to see and feel that energy.
Benoit: My most memorable moment was BPM Year 1. The first year was super intimate and you had the feeling that you knew everyone - around the 4th night was the Pablo Ceballos party. We closed the party at 7am and everyone who was at that party walked over to Kool Beach to open the beach club (earlier than scheduled), and the authorities came to find 50 people sitting on the curb of the entrance waiting for the beach to open
Craig: There have been so many moments over the years but the one that keeps happening every year over and over again is seeing all the same faces. Since Year 1 we really have had some amazing support from patrons, and to hear them say that it gets better and better every year is really special. Everyone involved in BPM really loves what they’re doing, and to see other people appreciate that, even with the fact it keeps growing every year, tells us we’re doing something right.
Phil: There are truly so many memorable moments I personally have over the course of the past 5 years of BPM, however one that I cherish dearly is having my dear friend/artist Marco Carola not only play an incredible extended set @ BPM 2012, but following it up with a private party in my home where he made me his mom’s signature Neapolitan lasagna.
Ralf: I would have to say my most memorable moment is me being at Kool Beach looking down at the crowd from above and thinking, wow how amazing is this and how happy I am to be a part of it.
Vito: I’d have to say the highlights for me are the beach parties. To see people embracing the day parties, and now the big name DJs all want to do guest sets to give back to the fans. I think it’s a great feeling to see everyone working in sync and the smiles on both the talent and the fans as the sun goes down. Another highlight is year 5 with Danny Tengalia playing a legendary NYE set till the afternoon [4pm!] at Blue Parrot.
With the another installment of the Primavera festival coming up on April 5th there is no doubt even more incredible memories will be made!
