Top Five House Music Parties at WMC 2012

Share

Pretty much every genre of electronic music will be represented at WMC but this list is for the true house-heads. Here are our Top 5 picks for the best house music parties at Winter Music Conference 2012.

5. 6th Annual Scooter and Lavelle & Friends WMC Showcase

Who: Scooter and Lavelle, Scotty Boy, Donald Glaude, Kristina Sky, Anthony Attala, Kenneth Thomas, Louis Dee, D: Fuse

When: Sunday, March 25th, 9:00pm - 5:00am

Where: 1020 Lounge (Inside the Clevelander) - 1020 Ocean Drive

Cost: $20; $10 w/ WMC Badge

Why: If you made a list of the top ten North American House DJ’s, S&L, Scotty Boy, and Donald Glaude would all rank in the top five, easily. Catching just one of these phenoms live sets is enough for any house music enthusiast to handle, much less all three in one night. Prepare yourself for a night of unrelenting, in-your-face house tracks and nothing but energy from behind the decks.

4. Space Presents Steve Angello

Who: Steve Angello, Pete Tong, Robbie Rivera, Louis Puig, Patrick M

When: Saturday, March 24th, 10:00pm- 4:00am

Where: Space Miami (The Terrace) - 34 NE 11th Street

Cost: $60 before 12:00am; Free before 12:00am w/ WMC Badge

Why: Steve Angello always brings the energy in the form of his chart-topping bangers, but when you add a legend like Pete Tong and the diverse style of Robbie Rivera all under one roof in one of Miami’s hottest clubs, you get a truly eclectic mix of house music that is sure to make your heart skip a beat. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

3. X-Mix Productions Party

Who: Armand Van Helden, DJ Dan, DJ Sneak, Felix Da Housecat, Harry Choo Choo Romero, Junior Sanchez, Todd Terry

When: Friday, March 23rd, 10:00pm- 5:00am

Where: Shine @ Shelbourne South Beach - 1801 Collins Ave.

Cost: $30 presale; free before 1:00am w/ WMC Badge

Why: Since Armand Van Helden isn’t on the world-wide touring circuit as often as most house DJ’s are and seeing a solo performance from him can be hard to come by, missing this event would be a mistake for that reason alone. But when you add the funky style of house music pioneer and revolutionary DJ Dan, who’s natural talent and ability behind the decks is often forgotten (for reasons I don’t understand), this show becomes one of the top shows during WMC. But wait, there’s more: throw in Felix Da Housecat, Junior Sanchez, and DJ Sneak and you’ve got yourself an all-star lineup of house DJ’s who promise to deliver performances that harken back to the origins of house music. Bring your dancing shoes!

2. Welcome to Miami 5 Year Anniversary

Who: Sander Kleinenberg, EDX, LA Riots, Felix Cartel, Treasure Fingers, UMEK, Stefano Noferini, Tom Navy, Alex Kenji, Sultan & Ned Shepard, Nadia Ali, Starkillers, Serge Devant, and more . . .

When: Wednesday, March 21st, 12:00pm- 5:00am

Where: Nikki Beach - 1 Ocean Ave.

Cost: $40, $15 before 11:00pm; Free after 11:00pm w/ WMC Badge

Why: Tired of hearing the same songs over and over again when you go to a show? Had enough of that same ol’ build up and drop where the DJ takes the bass out during the build and pitches the sound until he drops the bass back in for a heavy drop? Then don’t miss this show! It’s hard to imagine a lineup of more diverse house DJ’s than this, all with a unique brand of original house music. With Sander, EDX, and LA Riots leading the way, acts like Felix Cartel and Treasure Fingers bring a funky house sound to support. Let’s not forget the trio that spawned one of last summers biggest hits either: “Pressure,” by Alex Kenji, Nadia ALi, and Starkillers. Oh, and did I mention its at Nikki Beach, one of South Beach’s premier beach destinations?

1. Axwell Presents “Axtone Pool Party”

Who: Axwell, Thomas Gold, Funkagenda, Arty, Michael Calfan, No_i.d., Calvin Harris

When: Sunday, March 25th, 11:00am- 11:00pm

Where: Surfcomber Hotel & Pool - 1717 Collins Ave.

Cost: $45 before 2:00pm; free before 1:00pm; Free w/ WMC Badge

Why: If your looking for that big house sound, aggressive bass line, emotional chord progression, or perfect vocal melody, this is your destination. The recent success of Calvin Harris’ chart-toppers like “Feel So Close,” “You Used To Hold Me,” and “We Found Love” are a testament to his production skills and his live shows are worthy of the same praise. When you throw in Axwell and Thomas Gold, the two DJ’s who spawned the huge remix of “Blow Up” by Hard Rock Sofa and St. Brothers; Arty, one of the most anticipated big room house DJ’s of the year; Funkagenda and Michael Calfan, all poolside under the hot Miami sun, you have the ingredients for the number one house music party at WMC. Don’t forget your shades!
