EDC Las Vegas 2012 - Incredible!

Share

This years Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) Las Vegas was bigger than ever with incredible talent, elaborate stages and spectacular visuals. festivalZOO was at EDC Las Vegas all 3 nights to experience the largest festival in America and enjoy the production that is Insomniac’s flagship festival.

Friday night (June 8th) was the first night of the festival and despite there being a lot of traffic on the way to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway (where EDC Las Vegas is held) we arrived after about a 45 trip from the Las Vegas strip. Getting in was orderly and organized and once we made it onto the festival grounds EDC was visually stunning. Not only was every stage dramatically decked out but Insomniac made sure there was plenty of other art installments and visuals for our eyes to feast on. EDC Las Vegas had art installations that have been at Burning Man and now are entertaining spectators at other events across the country. EDC also continued their tradition of having fan driven para-gliders shoot fire and sparks across the dark desert night while shortly after that the most incredible fireworks show lit up the sky over the festival for nearly 30 minutes!

Kaskade was our favorite major artist of the night, he played on the main stage and rocked the crowd as he always does at these massives. Friday had a lot more dubstep DJ’s and acts than the other EDC nights but that is what festivals need to truly have something for everyone.

Saturday night (June 9th) was a little bit disappointing for many festival goers as due to high winds and safety concerns Insomniac and the authorities made the decision around midnight to stop the festival for almost 2 hours and they had to turn away those waiting to enter. As disappointing as this may have been, it was the right decision as the safety of every one of those attending should come first. Insomniac did what they could and allowed those who bought a Saturday ticket only to exchange it for a Sunday ticket so if possible they could come back and enjoy the festivities. Those who were already in the festival were ushered into the Motor Speedway grandstand until the winds died down. One stage was allowed to re-open once things calmed down and Gareth Emery and Markus Schulz impressed those who stayed and gathered around the make-shift stage. Markus Schulz spun a much different set with more a deep house sound than the usual trance he is known to throw down.

Sunday (June 10th) was the last night of the festival and for many it was a good thing as 3 days and nights in the desert can take a toll on even the most prepared festival veterans! We certainly made the rounds but we stopped at the Cosmic Meadow stage and couldn’t leave while the line-up included John Digweed, Carl Cox and Danny Tenaglia! I can’t say we were surprised (as it can almost be expected) but Carl Cox delivered the best set of the festival impressing even those that don’t enjoy proper techno music. Many festival-goers who came to the festival to hear electro and dubstep were amazed at the energy Carl Cox brought in his set. Danny Tengalia closed out the night at the Cosmic Meadow stage and the man who’s resigning (not retiring) spun an especially hard and dirty set which the crowd ate up as the festival came to close and EDC Las Vegas 2012 was in the books.

Overall we at festivalZOO feel the Electric Daisy Carnival - Las Vegas was a big success in 2012. Even with the safety issue on Saturday night this years festival was run very well and for accommodating over 300,000 festival-goers everything at the EDC ran extremely smoothly. From the artist line-up to the stunning visuals it appeared Insomniac spared no expense at EDC Las Vegas to stimulate every sense that makes attending a dance music festival what it should be. We’re looking forward to the next Electric Daisy Carnival installment coming up next year!
