FUNKAGENDA: “Every track on here has been in my set at some point… I don’t know many artists I can say that about. Amazing stuff.”
MARK KNIGHT: “Kim Fai is set to be a star of the future, his tracks feature in all of my sets. A true ‘Leader of the New School’!” Toolroom’s prominent “Leaders Of The New School” EP series was breaking ground for some of our hottest names including Richard Dinsdale & Patric La Funk; and in January of this year the series spread its wings to become a fully-fledged digital label, out to expose the freshest future talent and cutting-edge music from around the globe! Over the past 9 months the Leaders Of The New School label has relentlessly fired out awesome EPs to the world’s dancefloors, from artists such as Matt Samuels, Martin Eyerer & Patrick Chardronnet, Kate Lawler, Tim Weeks, Flip & Djuma Soundsystem & many more. Now, the time has come to serve up a full & complete artist album from one of the brightest and most talented young DJ/Producers around… Ladies and Gentlemen, we present to you KIM FAI, with his compelling debut LP “Kissing In Krakow”! Kim Fai burst out of Birmingham’s club scene a year ago and instantly seized the attention and support of big-leaguers Mark Knight and Funkagenda. Showering the scene with an arsenal of twisted techy bangers, he built himself a quick reputation as a genuine ‘one to watch’! Coming-of-age last December with his mammoth re-rub of Funkagenda’s Toolroom Trax smash ‘What The Fuck’, which tore up the Beatport Tech House chart, Kim cemented his position as one of the foremost young producers in the scene. He’s spent a large part of this year locked in the studio tightening and honing his skills, remixing for labels such as Big Love, PopPop, Nervous, Flatbelly, Control Freq & Groovedigital; and giving his album the final tweaks to ensure it’s truly killer material. From special collaborations with Funkagenda, Micky Slim & Paul Thomas, to DJ gigs in Australia, Austria, Canada, Switzerland, Poland and all over the UK, Kim Fai is a man on a mission. This bold album is the icing on the cake of a very exciting year! In ‘Kissing In Krakow’ Kim deftly blends rugged body-shaking tech house with touches of stripped back minimal and flourishes of emotive melodies, forming an album that will excite clubbers and DJs right across the house spectrum. The title track is a mischievous slice of jaunty, ear-catching tech with a perky riff that sounds like a traditional Polish folk dance; it’s a frisky firecracker of a track that will embed itself in your brain for days after hearing it! ‘Empty Inside’ is a driving forcefield of brooding bass and propulsive beats, with a drawn-out drop that slams back in and tears a club apart… ‘Recluse’ brings a tense, edgy atmosphere with a man ominously intoning, ‘It’s not about who’s right…’ over a mesmerizingly dark houser that constantly flexes up and down, keeping every person locked to the dancefloor. It’s a slick, accomplished track that is one of the many highlights of the LP. ‘Excuses’ is a sure-fire anthem to give your crowd goosebumps, a tough, rigorous bassline powering the track through jets of white noise, under a shimmering melody that envelopes you and draws you right in. And yet another outstanding track is ‘Embo’, an epic slab of flawless peak-time dynamite that has ‘huge’ written all over it - built for main room destruction on a vast scale! The album delivers nine tracks of solid dancefloor gold, topped off with ‘Pass A Roach’, a blissful, twinkling downtempo gem tinged with melancholy; a simply perfect way to close this powerful LP. |
