Club Space in Ibiza is arguable the most well known club on the island, if not in the world. With parties all seven nights that go well into the morning, your visit to Ibiza is not complete until you have partied at this legendary venue. It’s located on the part of the island called Playa d’en Bossa, very close to Bora Bora, and it’s massive, so you can’t miss it.
Although noise ordinances (put into place a few years back) have restricted the day parties, notably the open-air parties that used to take place on the infamous “Terraza” (Space Terrace), Space hasn’t let that slow them down. The venue transformed itself into a super-club with 6 different rooms (7 if you count the parking lot that they use for the opening and closing parties only) and truly has something for everyone. There are two terraces (main terrace and second terrace, neither is fully enclosed), a very dark and therefore much cooler (temperature-wise) main dance floor (discotecha), and a few other side rooms tucked away upstairs and in various corners of the club.
It’s opening and closing “fiestas” typically mark the beginning and end of the party season and these events can draw festival-size crowds that push 20,o00! Meanwhile, on any given night, you can join thousands that flock here for the following impressive weekly line-up:
Sundays:
We Love, the original Island Sunday festival, returns to Space for its 14th season – confirming to be the Island’s longest running event.
Monday:
The most fun packed night of the White Isle, Monday’s Calling, is confirmed to satisfy the tastes of the most demanding clubber. Fresh sounds and some of the most acclaimed artists of the house music scene. This year Mark Knight‘s Toolroom Records and Roger Sanchez Release Yourself take turn hosting.
Tuesday:
The king of techno returns to Space to celebrate his 10th Anniversary with a bang. Carl Cox’s Revolution will, without a doubt, be an event to be a part of each Tuesday during his Space Ibiza summer residency.
Wednesday:
The House and Trance comes this season to BE to induce altered states of consciousness by the best exponents of both genres led by World’s N 1 DJ ARMIN VAN BUUREN as a resident in addition to very important guests, every Wednesday a spectacular production at the Disco and The Terrace of Space Ibiza with different styles, the best crowd and all the musical magic of Ibiza.
Thursday:
Surely the most underground event of the White Isle, Kehakuma, changes to Thursdays to be re-established as the most influential event that’s hit Ibiza since already three seasons ago. Tech House, Deep House and Minimal - united in a night not to be missed. Main Resident is Nick Curly and guests include M.A.N.D.Y, Tiefschwarz, and Jamie Jones.
Friday:
Come Together is confirmed for a massive comeback in 2011 with a new Friday night slot and an extended 12-week run. This first of its kind mini-festival concept changed the musical topography of Ibiza in 2010 and is to bring a smashing line up week after week to Space Ibiza in 2011.
Saturday:
Café Olé returns to reign Ibiza’s Saturday night. With its glamorous setting, the White Isle’s most polisexual event promises fun packed nights, extravagant staging, as well as the music brought by the most acclaimed house producers and vocalists of the moment.
At Space, it’s all about the music. Don’t expect lavish decor or a gigantic VIP section taking up half of the club, like Pacha. It has more of an afterhours feel. Like all the clubs on this crazy party island, drinks are expensive, so be prepared to dish out 12 t0 15 Euro (whether you want water, red bull or alcohol). And I strongly recommend you visit the gift shop and purchase a handheld fan or bring one with you because it gets hot, hot, hot in this place! Dress code is pretty much non-existent so feel free to dress up or down and express yourself. Remember, you will most likely be on your feet and dancing for many hours, I say go for comfort over fashion! Also, parking at this club isn’t as troublesome as some of the other venues due to the fact there is a huge FREE parking lot out front.
After my first visit to Space, I fell in love. Even for the magical island of Ibiza, the energy and vibe inside Space is something extraordinarily unique (and therefore very difficult to articulate). I have been to clubs all around the world (Los Angeles, Miami, Berlin, London, Barcelona and Greece), yet Space holds a very special place in my heart. This is usually how I describe what it’s like being at Space. Imagine you are having the absolute, hands down, no doubt about it, best time of your life. Now, imagine you are surrounded by and partying with thousands of other people that are feeling the same exact way - they are also having the best night of their life. Do you see how that energy would be off the charts? When you look around, everyone is smiling and laughing, everyone is happy and dancing like crazy. It doesn’t matter that the people come from all corners of the world and that most people do not speak the same language, everyone gets along and appreciates what each person is contributing to the vibe - everyone is a Space cadet! All in all, it’s unlike anything you have ever experienced.
